Large areas around Gümüşhane have been subjected to extensive hydrothermal alteration and are thought to have potential for precious metal deposits. Most of the favorable terrane is strongly faulted and mineralization is confined to fault related fluid channelways. Nevertheless, an economic epithermal gold-silver deposit was found 9km from Gumushane and is operational. Present concession area is promising in terms of geology and apparent mineralization and needs funding for further study.
